Kanye 02 Performance: One In A Billion
November 24th, 2007
Wooooooooooooooooow. Let me start off by saying that Kanye gave a performance of a lifetime. He did not let his fans down. He delivered at an extremely high level. Best concert I’ve ever experienced. Mary J Blige live in Las Vegas 06 was my best show until now (sounds crazy but she put on an amazing show).
Now, before I attempt to give my description of the show, I will also let you know about the dramas that we had trying to get in.
So, we get to the 02 Center at about 7.30pm and the show has already started (opening acts). The way we all rolled up to the front of the entrance you would have thought we had tickets. Well, the story on that was, my boy was meant to sort the tickets out but things got long. Then he was going to book two weeks before and the unfortunate death of his mom happened. After that we heard conflicting stories about weather Kanye was going to turn up or not. Back to regular schedule – So, we get to the door and my boy who is already there gives us the 411 that the Undercover Police were confer skating tickets from the touts. Please note that my boy had only one extra ticket, which meant we needed 3 more. Problem was that the ticket touts looked like the undercovers and vice versa. We’re running around trying to get eye contact and differentiate between the two. It wasn’t successful so I came up with a plan were we all split up (because a group of guys in bright colors wasn’t low-key to say the least). It worked. My boy got the tickets and we were in.
The show opened up to the intro of Stronger, which faded into Good Morning. “Wake up Mr. West, Mr. West…” Instantly tearing it down. He then went through all the classics. I think it was the third of forth song in when he performed the groundbreaking can’t Tell Me Nothing. He absolutely murdered it. The crowd erupted like crazy. Kanye shut it down with most of the songs the new album and some classics from the old including Through The Wire, Heard Em Say, Spaceship, Touch The Sky, Diamonds Are Forever, Golddiger and Jesus Walks. Let me add. Drunk and Hot Girls sounded incredible live.
When Kanye talks about making songs that are stadium I totally understands what he means. Every song had that stadium appeal and he will definitely go down as one of if not the best entertainer of our generation. REAL TALK.
There was an emotional point when Kanye performed Hey Mama. I definitely felt his pain. Me losing my biggest inspiration, idol and hero (my Mum) is the worst thing that could ever happen. R.I.P Donda West.
Kanye closed the night on an incredible with Stronger. ‘Whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger,’ Let me add: His Cyclops sunglasses were fucking insane. They look like the red light that moves horizontally on the Night Ryder car. Dope.
I could go on forever about the show. Overall I commend Kanye for his emotion, effort and dedication that went into the show. For me, he is definitely the best all-rounded artist in the world right now. Hands down.
I you haven’t already, make sure you try and see one of his performances. It’s a true lifetime experience.
